XMS has designed and implemented the new automatic parking system at Parcheggio Molinari in Vallecrosia (Imperia, Italy), introducing an integrated solution for vehicle and pedestrian access control, payments and subscriber management.
With a capacity of approximately 300 parking spaces, the facility is equipped with ESPAS 30 Ultra technology, integrated with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), electronic and contactless payments, and access control for private areas.
The system automates the management of both occasional users, through ticketing, and subscribers, while also providing differentiated recognition of cars and motorcycles and preparation for future camper-van parking management.
The Project
Parcheggio Molinari is an important mobility facility for Vallecrosia and the surrounding Ligurian coastline. The project required a modern, reliable and flexible parking management system capable of automating vehicle entry and exit, ticketing, payments, subscriptions and pedestrian access control.
Particular attention was paid to traffic flow at the gates and ease of use. All entry and exit stations were therefore integrated with automatic license plate recognition cameras, allowing the vehicle plate number to be associated with the ticket issued at entry.
The XMS Solution
XMS implemented a complete system based on ESPAS 30 Ultra technology.
Automatic License Plate Recognition
ANPR technology is installed on every entry and exit lane. When a vehicle enters, its plate number is automatically detected and associated with the relevant ticket. Users can retrieve their parking session at an automatic payment machine simply by entering their plate number, even without physically using the ticket.
Automatic Exit Through License Plate Recognition
After payment, the camera identifies the vehicle at the exit, verifies the validity of the parking session and opens the barrier when the required conditions are met. The driver does not need to stop and present the ticket to a scanner, helping to improve traffic flow and reduce waiting times at the barriers.
Automatic Access for Subscribers
The vehicle plate can be associated directly with a subscription and used as an access credential. Authorised subscribers can therefore enter and exit without necessarily using tickets, cards or other physical media.
Payment Directly at the Exit
The two ESPAS 30 Ultra CC exit stations include electronic and contactless payment terminals. Users can pay directly at the exit using compatible credit cards, debit cards and contactless payment methods. This adds an alternative payment channel alongside the three automatic payment machines.
Differentiated Rates for Cars and Motorcycles
The system can automatically distinguish motorcycles from cars, allowing the operator to configure different pricing policies according to vehicle type. This feature is particularly useful in urban and tourist parking facilities.
Preparation for Camper-Van Parking
The system has been designed with the possibility of future camper-van parking management in mind. The platform can be configured and expanded with dedicated access and pricing rules for different vehicle categories.
Pedestrian Access Control for Private and VIP Areas
Eight dual-technology pedestrian readers, installed on 120 cm AISI 316 stainless-steel columns, control access to private and VIP areas. This integrates vehicle parking management and pedestrian access control within the same infrastructure.
